Early mornings with the horses
Working with animals is very rewarding but a lot of hard work and early mornings. Getting up at five, barely awake, changing litter, brushing, taking care of coat and hooves and checking the welfare of their charges, carting bales of litter for the boxes and hay for the hay nets. Then a few hours riding out two or more horses. At lunch a few more chores including sweeping stables and yard before leaving for a few hours before returning for evening stables. And you only get Saturday afternoon and sunday off every fourteenth day. I took the picture above on a misty early morning standing freezing at the bottom of Warren Hill in Newmarket, England, seeing the horses in training pass by on the horse pass crossing the road and in the distance seeing the horses run up the hill.
