The origin of a city

DSC_0135This is the first street in Malmö. According to a book about cities they typically started with a single street along a beach and this is the original street along the beach where the fishers landed the herring in Malmö. The herring was sold and exported to the continent. The red house to the left of the street has it´s origins in medieval time circa late 1200s – 1300s and has a medieval cellar. If you can afford it you can have a meal there or stay at the hotel. The yellow building with a tower behind it beside the red medieval building is also part of the complex but is so rebuilt you can´t recognize it as a medieval building anymore.
