Treasure – Blackberries

Day sixteen on WordPress University course Photo 101 and the theme is Treasure & Close up. Inspired by Michelle´s assignment mail about close ups of blackberries on her tart my mind wanders to blackberries. I still have a lot of them in my garden, I spent most of last year weeding them out as my garden resembled the garden of Aurora who slept for a hundred years with a lot of thorny blackberry bushes and briars. I still have blackberry stands here and there and hope to try to keep some on a spot where I don´t scratch myself. The flower is very beautiful and comes during the spring and transforms to berries during late summer.

Blackberries needs to be picked everyday as they start to ripen at the end of July and the blackberry season gradually wanes during the autumn until the beginning of November. The last berries never ripens. The leaves stay green all year round in our climate. I pick a leaf a day for our rabbit.

The allotments in the park nearby have hedges of blackberries to protect their treasures and they have decorated the gates to their allotments with dried blackberry stalks to prevent intruders. So blackberries as well as being treasures in themselves can be used to protect the treasures of their gardens.
